Helping children to pass the Independent Schools' Entrance Exams

I have been helping children to pass the Independent Schools' Entrance Exams for just over twenty years, now, and during this time, I have acquired a great deal of knowledge and insight into the best ways of achieving success. I have a 100% pass rate to date, and I enjoy watching my students grow in confidence and ability as they progress through the various stages towards the exams.

I have tutored children to pass the Entrance Exams for The Manchester Grammar School, Manchester High School for Girls, Withington Girls' School, Stockport Grammar School, Cheadle Hulme School and The King's School, Macclesfield.

Assessment, Tutoring and Preparation

Initially, I use the Bond Assessment papers, supplemented by appropriate extra materials which I provide as necessary. This is to gauge the child's current level of ability and knowledge, helping me identify the areas that need improvement.

I use this time to teach the students any topics that were identified for improvement. Building up slowly gives the child time to assimilate everything we've been working on. We then move on - usually at the beginning of the autumn term - to working through past papers.

Timescale

It is best to allow a full year's preparation, as there is a lot to cover, and taking things at a more leisurely pace allows plenty of time for teaching new concepts and removes any last-minute panic. The ideal time to start is in January, when the child is in Year 5, ready for taking the exams the following January.
